Furniture and Accessories

I always have had a special fondness for furniture, doors and other accessories. There is an element of classic and essential childhood play about arranging tables and chairs, a treasure chest, and a pile of barrels on a 4" cardboard square. I remember wanting to collect enough to properly furnish the bar room brawl games in White Dwarf. To do so I modeled detailed tables from balsa (some had tiny pegged joints) painted them, and cut cylindrical plastic sprue into bottles and beer tankards.

However, unlike the metal characters and creatures who I have neatly organized and cataloged - the furniture was designated a separate box - all manufacturers mixed together.

Having started on some doors as part of the plastic games figures I painted last month, I decided to continue in that vein and selected a large batch of assorted furniture from the box(s) - Though I did pick out all the Citadel pieces.

6 weeks later and they are done:

Citadel - metal

I added bases added to the small chests (C39), braziers (DS2), and the loo (LE13)
The four chests on Square bases were sculpted that way (C39 1984)
The Bookshelves, Couch, and assorted tables are DS2
I also had got them in blisters marked 7511 no idea about that coding

(To see the Citadel FS range of furniture and accessories go back my single post in 2015)

Early Board Games - plastic - GW

Warhammer Quest large doorway with DarkWorld door
Advanced HeroQuest doorways
HeroQuest weapons racks
DarkWorld chest

Reaper Bones

Sacks, jars, and treasure chest and candelabra - based
Altar of Evil, Pillars of Good and Evil
Large barrel and crates
Well of Chaos

Dungeon Saga (Mantic)

Double door, single doors, portcullis
table, bookshelves, alchemist's cupboard, well

Conan Game (Monolith)
Cupboard and Crates

Assorted Old Metal

Summoning Circle - Grenadier
Bed - Ral Partha 32-011
Rack - RAFM

And now we come to the problem of having them all in a box together
I have no clue what the others are.

Bar and back shelves -  had it for 35 years
Large ornate table with matching chairs
Large table with food
Small table with food
and the chests - based

If you know please let me know through the comments or Facebook

Lots more furniture and accessories to go.
But next I need to work on something without lots of wood!

One Word - Plastics

"One Word - Plastics"

I seem to have been buying games with large numbers of plastic figures through some sort of pay in advance and wait 6-18 months scheme on the internet.

Many of them are quite lovely.

I got out some furniture from Mantic's Dungeon Saga to paint... and then decided I should start at the beginning.

So for the last month and some I have been painting the Heroes from games with names ending in "Quest"

From 1987 to 1995

Dungeon Quest - Hero Quest - Advanced Hero Quest - Warhammer Quest

The Dungeon Quest were previously painted decades ago - I touched up their original paint work and rebased them - and added a little nmm. All the others were well played with but never painted.

I painted them as three stage characters - Something I can't say I had noticed before this painting project. The elves belts are giveaway.

I'm going back to preslotta for some regiments next - but I'm adding the furniture and monsters from these games to the upcoming projects list.  But I did start on the doors...

Making & Faking

Faking It

A couple of years ago I painted as close to a full set of the Citadel FS series
as I could find.

Having painted them I put them in foam lined trays. I made sure to allow space for the few missing pieces when I acquired them. Thus:

This month an FS22-1 Victim in Iron Cage came up on auction.

The only one I've ever noticed for sale.

I didn't win it  :-(

Despite bidding way more that I really wanted to pay for it

So

In the cold morning light where losers rationalize:

Well bugger! Short of some lucky fluke, I,m never going to own it; and besides its not that great a sculpt anyway; it was replaced in the range because it sucked so much; totally not worth that much $; its an object, not even person, it wouldn't be that hard to make one. . .

Bring me wire and green stuff!

Tray Now Complete

Making It

My 25mm -28mm miniatures are on round beveled edge bases.

(Unless they are an old Warhammer regiment - they still get square)

Typically since they are Pre-slotta recessed into the base. Then Green stuff cobbles are applied. I used to do it like this:

But now there are awesome pre-made hollow bases out there like these:

This has worked, well there are a large number of sizes available, even small and tiny ones for halflings and snotlings (Using the circles from the old Citadel 20mm and 25mm unit bases)

However

Figures larger than 28mm (Prince august, Mithril, Reaper, and many wonderful new figures) I mount on lipped bases.

Lipped bases come in an amazing variety of sizes (measured to Outside Diameter)

However

There are no small 25mm size for halflings, and other small critters.

I have searched, there are 25mm small circles out there, but the scale of the lip does not match the others.

I scoured the internet, and then hardware stores for something appropriate.

Enough Talk - The rest is just pictures:

Please please tell me that was a complete waste of time and 25mm diameter, deep lipped bases are available somewhere.

Cheers

Citadel WF Range (Weird Fantasy)

This month more Citadel 25mm Pre Slottas

I set myself a goal of painting the WF range in one month - including basing.

The only significant distraction was losing a week or so to carefully gluing several hundred rhinestones on my daughters prom dress.

I have had many of these characterful miniatures since I could by them in baggies at the local toy store. The last few, released in the US by Ral Partha can be harder to find.

I suppose that if you are not really old, and particularly if you are also not from the UK, this range may need a few explanations.

The Aardvarks are a (presumably unlicensed) representation of the comic book character Cerebus created by Dave Sim.   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cerebus_the_Aardvark

The General Manager WF6 and the Midland Troll WF16 are in the likeness of Bryan Ansell the manager of Citadel Miniatures (pictured below).

The Skin Golem WF7 is nicknamed Gumby after a character in the TV show Monty Python.

And finally the Dwarf with No Name:
The Man with No Name is the protagonist portrayed by Clint Eastwood in Sergio Leone's "Dollars Trilogy" of Spaghetti Western films: A Fistful of Dollars (1964), For a Few Dollars More (1965) and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966). He is easily recognizable due to his iconic hat, poncho, fondness for cigarillos and the fact that he rarely talks.

If there are other details I've missed, I'd love top hear about them.

Citadel FF Series - US Extension

This month I went back to Citadel 25mm Pre Slottas after a couple of
Working in 32mm (Prince August and Reaper).

I have finished off the Citadel FF series ( http://leadnpaint.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html ) with the American Extension. These were sold in the US by Ral Partha under their Imports label.

Some of these packs Are not unique - I'm not showing the repackaged FS Tiles
Some were issued as part of the Runequest Range
Some of the Miniatures are not Citadel - but Ral Partha Sculpts.
